Atrocity - Hallucinations (1991)

*note* Do not let your first impressions from the EM sway your opinion on this band.
While now an industrial gothic band, Atrocity at one point was a very good Death Metal band who played an original sound that stood out for reasons beyond simply being 'heavy as fuck'.
Atrocity are commonly compared to Autopsy and early Atheist for song structure and general sound - but what makes this band unique is their interpretation of 'technicality'.  Not solos an riffs of complex mathematical nature, but overall sound organization or potential lack there of. No song sounds the same here and each track has such variation that you're never quite sure what to expect.
Ranging from oddly high in the mix and well done drumming to almost grind like breaks and crunchy guitar solos to church organs all atop distorted vocal haunting... then right back to straight old school death.
Other fun fact is this album comes with a warning in the booklet: "The characters, places and incidents described in "Hallucinations" are the product of Alex Krull's imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events or locations is entirely coincidental." for it's apparently a concept of a sexually abused teen girl who becomes a run away junkie an eventual overdose demise.
