What better to follow a good debut from Oregon than some depressing funeral doom from the fr0zen gr1mm hills of New Jersey and Sweden. New Jersey is pretty depressing.
Beneath The Frozen Soil play a death/doom sound that melds the two quite well. Evoken play a heavier funeral-doom with a tad of drone.. or least it's pacing is so painfully slow and haunting it sounds so.
Both bands know their shit and do it well, they don't try to infuse other genres or come of as something they're not. The two also don't 'tread' into the others territories, you can tell one bands sound from the other.
Other stand out is vocally the two are very different. Evoken have the very low in the mix suffering filled moan an woe while BTFS uses gruff growls and wails that add the extra hatred.
