Er-hem, Summoning, if you didn't get my first joke, is an Austrian black metal band inspired heavily by J.R.R Tolkiens' LOTR novels. This band has been around since the early 90s and have the genre of "epic" attached to them (along with Atmospheric black metal). Epic is an appropriate title for the lyrical content and overall presentation the band brings musically certainly makes them stand out.
I'm not saying this to be a folk/fantasy raging nerd-boner band - but they're certainly inspired. The gritty raw basis of black metal creates the foundation (however on this album in particular the vocals 'cleaned' and spoken word samples were used) that is then layered on with 'medieval' like instrumentation an march like pacing. This may be a stretch but the sound of the music really is 'Tolkien/fantasy'-ish while still maintaining the darkness that were the novels.

tl;dr - not your standard black metal band with heavy tie to Tolkien content all layered over an medieval like landscape.
