Cebren-Khal - A Mass Of Despair [2010]

You ever wonder if bands scout around for places to shoot promo pics? I've always wondered if they ask "is this spot in the forrest grim enough? Maybe we should all stand around and look in different directions. Or we can have Pete crouch... yeah, this'll be pretty menacing".
No? Me either.. Cerben-Khal play a blackened doom contortion that rides the pacing of both genres well. As opposed to taking Doom traits of slow atmospheric piano intros to most songs (they do that for the intro) Cerebn-Khal go right to the blistering pace of black metal and when they've got you hooked tease you back down to a depressing glaze then toss you back in the oven of "hate". Yeah.. I totally just made a cooking reference.
Not ones to neglect what makes the genres special in their own the band meshes the two keeping it 'lively' and spiteful while still playing on the unwavering ache that makes Doom so good.
I think I pretty much said the same thing over and over..
It's good. Just fucking listen to it.
