Kvelertak means "stranglehold" in Norwegian, and this has nothing to do with the review I'm about to write. The band Kvelertak, formed in 2007, have just released their self-titled debut album, which is most likely to be the album of the year, or at least a sure contender for the title in my book. It's an uncategorizable mixture of genres from from punk rock through black metal through rock'n'roll to Baroness-style sludgy something I can't really pigeonhole. Also: owls; an obsession I can't seem to understand, but is worth mentioning nonetheless. In a nutshell, "Kvelertak" is a shitload of groove and an amalgamation of genres dubbed "black'n'roll" by some. Whatever you call it, it just made me wet my pants so I'm about to change, but I need to give this fucker another spin before I go... I think I've been sitting here for hours just listening to it.
