Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked (2005)

So you don't like Nile, eh? You think they only write unmemorable, mediocre songs with over the top technicality and some unnecessary Egyptian ambient stuff thrown in for the joke of it, am I right? In case you've never listened to this album (or Catacombs for that matter) I fully understand you. Most of Nile's stuff isn't my cup of tea, but this album is superior to pretty much all their other releases, due to one simple feature: consistency. Many Nile albums tend to be excessively long, encompassing a bunch of instrumental interludes and lengthy songs with only a few stand-out tracks, thus making it dull for everyone but the avid listener; whereas Annihilation is the most consistent full-length Nile ever released, with a good balance of fast-paced brutality, midtempo pummeling, and the occasional interludes. It's not just the same brute-tech jitter re-recycled and mixed up with lutes and pipes n' shit. This is how Nile should sound like, and you can listen to the whole thing in one go without getting bored. New to the band? Grab this album first. Already a fan? Then you probably know this is their best - otherwise, fuck you.
Sorry for not posting anything of late, but I'm very busy. I rarely have time to check the emails and comments you crazy fuckers are sending. Don't worry, I'm still lurking and thinking of things to make this blog better.

P.S.: Get on IRC if you want to tell me something urgently. Also, hanging out there might make us want to give a shit about your irrelevant matters.
