King Diamond

Last.FM

King Diamond is the stage name for front man Kim Petersen (Denmark, nuff said) who also fronts Mercyful Fate. I don't know why he made a second band named after his own monkier. Heavy metal name sakes, Abigail is their most acclaimed (and earliest) album to start with. As years progressed the high pitches aren't hit as well, but it's still 'fucken diamond'. King Diamond himself is an interesting character if you feel like reading up on him.

Stoner doom at its best. One of the fundamental albums of the genre. I feel a strong urge to post more stoner/sludge/doom related stuff in the near future, prepare whatever drugs you prefer and brace for awesome.

Gadget - The Funeral March (2006)

Like Nasum? Sure you do, everyone does, and this excellent piece of Swedish grind follows exactly the path laid down by the last two Nasum albums.

Katalepsy - Your Fear Is Our Inhabitancy (2010)

Two-song Promo EP from one of the best Russian slam death bands, and they have a lot of them. Faster and more "tech" than their full-length, better sounding than their last few songs from some split I never really cared about, and has different vocals from all their previous stuff. Short, but good.

Wormlust

Wormlust is a newer black metal band from Iceland. I'm hesitant to call it atmospheric black metal because I don't want to give the wrong impression. Wormlust doesn't throw "atmosphere" on top of black metal - it uses black metal to create atmosphere. Lyngdal, the only musician currently behind Wormlust, has also brought up the psychedelic influences in his music, but they're not the focus of the project. The sound bears some resemblance to both Fell Voices and Rebirth of Nefast, but Wormlust is superior to both. If you're into droning black metal (and not the Russian kind where they're so busy being Nazis they forget to write music) with crushing atmosphere, give this a shot.

Recommended listening: Start with Seven Paths (their best IMO) and then move onto Svarthol. Oblivio Appositus is good but features a guest vocalist for its entirety. Sadly, I've been unable to track down the 2006 demo.

Pighead - Cadaver Desecrator [2010]

Brutal Death act from Germany that also have nice cover artwork.. er..
Gore oriented brutality with vocal styling to match with a creeping sense of tech and slam thrown in.
Short review.

Can also get a their '07 & '09 sampler for free from here.

Embryonic Devourment - Vivid Interpretations Of The Void [2010]

I'd say get this solely for the album artwork... No?
Death metal act whose main focus is conspiracy theories. Namely the one of shape-shifting reptoids (aka Lizard People) that have controlled the world for centuries by placing human sleepers in governmental power. That's pretty much the topic of the entire album.
Still not interested? Fine, musically this band is similar to Cephalic Carnage in it's technically DM style with constant start-stops, bass arpeggios and high number of killer solos that'll have you believing in the looming threat of reptoids.

Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today (2007)

I am stoned out of my mind at the moment. I can barely move, even typing this is mentally exhausting. Anyway, this is fun to listen to in a such state, so try it. Describing it would be too much of a task for me to do now, I suggest you acquire the recommended substances and listen to the album yourselves. I assure you, it will be quite cathartic.

Helcaraxë - Broadsword (2009)

Death metal heavy on melody and incorporating epic viking/nordic atmosphere without taking on any crazy folk stuff. Think Avenger-era Amon Amarth, add a bit of Epic-era Kataklysm, a slight touch from the last two albums of Arghoslent, and melodies sometimes resembling those of old Finnish death metal.

Immolation - Close to a World Below (2000)

We never had this one posted, so I'm posting it. Plus it's good. Their best? Who knows. I like it - but everyone has personal preferences.
Riff, Time Signatures, Blast Beats, songs over four minutes.
Get it.

Haemorrhage - Apology For Pathology (2006)

Haemorrhage are one of the most well-known pathologic goregrind bands, so fuck you if you want a detailed description of their music, you should be at least a bit familiar with it already. This is their most recent studio full-length and sounds considerably cleaner than the rest of their stuff, but it's pretty much the same style. You like early Carcass? Good, you'll like this too.

We had this posted 2 years ago an it died, I didn't like the band then. I still don't. ANYWAY.
'death / thrash / grind' from Arizona with chick vocalist that play uh... You remember the band kittie? That's kinda what the vocals sound like. The music itself is pretty good with a slower old school death style to it. I onno.

Sigh

Japanese 'pioneers' of black metal that traverse to post-BM and play a more avant-garde sound currently. Here's a much more thorough explanation/biography of 'SIGH'.
Sigh are a very special entity within the universe of metal, and no band will ever sound as they do. A lot has been said about their transition to a more "avant-garde", less black metal-oriented way of making music, but I think that conceptually this never really happened and anybody who dismisses them on the basis of some jazz or prog rock influences never really understood what they were about. Sigh never left any facet of their sound behind, never abandoned the metallic quality of their core, and were pretty damn esoteric almost from the outset. No doubt the instrumental and compositional skills of the band members have improved since 1993 from a technical standpoint, and perhaps the band did get a little lost a few years ago among the legion of styles they hungered to incorporate into their horrific and existentially challenging blend of music, but there has always been that powerful heavy metal riff, wailing guitar solo or morbid Sabbath-esque dirge to remind you that you're listening to a metal band first and foremost, no matter how many orchestral patches, pianos, saxophones or accordions they decide to throw at you at any given time. All the same, by the time of "Imaginary Sonicscape" the band had quite a few detractors within the realm of "true metal", and it could be said that they had moved quite far from the blackness that characterised their sound until the "Hail Horror Hail" album, roughly speaking. That's just it, though ... when it comes to Sigh's abrupt shifts and turns into unexpected territory, one can only roughly speak of their intentions and the reasons behind the band's decisions to do what they do. Indeed, I would argue that whatever the hell they sounded like, their mood has always remained horrific, disquieting and "black as pitch", even among brighter, bombastic musical passages. I suppose any naysayers the band might have can't have understood their latest album, "Hangman's Hymn", either, as that is pretty much a terrific snarl in the face of anybody who maintains that Sigh have lost touch with their origins and don't play any sort of black metal nowadays. That, however, is a subject for a different review. SOURCE

Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini (2010)

A new release from Enslaved, Axioma Ethica Odini, this album mixed the old school black metal with the clean melodies, a bit of folk passages, and a good performance of all the band, share your opinion

兀突骨 - 魍魎 (2009)

Translated this band and album title are: Gotsu Totsu Kotsu - Mōryō (or Mouryou) which then translates into something else.
Groove oriented Samurai themed metal. Got some folk/lore and tales of being epic Samurai and ludicrously well handled instrumentation. Bass you can actually hear in the mix! These Japanese gentlemen will take you on an sexy metal adventure. Plenty of infectious bass slapping and riff-age to keep stored in your head for days. After this bands onslaught you may feel inspired to weld your own sword and rob a liquor store.
I'm not endorsing that.

Putrid Pile - High-Quality Discography (Re-Post)

Collection Of Butchery (2003)
Putrid Piles “Collection of Butchery” Is simply 12 tracks of extreme Brutality! The song construction is great down to the very last song and all the instrument are skillfully played and can all be heard perfectly well! Also Collection Of Butchery has an original sound, even thew it takes after a few bands it cant be labeled as similar to any of them, There sound is some-what original witch is a nice change. Surprisingly Putrid Pile is a one-man band and even thew they use a drum machine, which normally I find, on a cd of this genre is a bit of a let down…thew in this particular cd it sounds great! The overall sound production on the cd is top class with a very crisp and clear yet it also has a sick sound to it. Finally a sick ass Digi-art cover of some women cut to peaces by a guy, adds to the over all sick image of the release. The cd also comes with lyrics witch are often forgot on Death/grind releases! In my opinion this is surely one of United Gutturals better releases! This is a must by for anyone interested in sick Death/grind!!

The Pleasure In Suffering (2005)
I would be unfair to say that Putrid Pile's second full-length, 'The Pleasure In Suffering', is exactly the same album as their first. Since I'm feeling charitable, I'll say that it is ESSENTIALLY the same as their first. Never since Bolt Thrower have I heard a more infinitesimal change in style or quality from a death metal band, setting Putrid Pile somewhere in the realm of Cannibal Corpse as far as consistency goes. Aside from the production having gotten louder/clearer/'wider'/more distorted, quite literally nothing has changed at all between the two releases. 'The Pleasure In Suffering', like 'Collection Of Butchery', is the sound of Putrid Pile: fast, gory brutal death metal which employs a blasty more than filly drum machine and lots of tremolo riffs and big held chords, as well as low gurgly vocals and high shrieky vocals. It all sounds very eeeeevil and Death Metal with capital letters. It's very brutal because it's very fast, has extremely thick and bassy production, and is intentionally abrasive in essentially every regard. This is probably what non-metal people think of when they hear the words 'death metal'. It really is just 'Collection Of Butchery' part two. It even has the same number of tracks and a running time that differs by just over half a minute. Really though, did we expect anything more than that? Your enjoyment of this album is directly proportional to your enjoyment of the last one. I don't know about you, but I'm still starvin' for them baby brains.

House Of Dementia (2009)
The production is adequate, mainly highlighting the guitar. The drums clearly sound like a programmed drum machine, so that acoustic, organic sound is lost in favor of a triggered sound, but each drum is easily distinguished from the other (unlike, say, Brain Drill's "Apocalyptic Feasting") so complain I cannot. As stated before, the bass doesn't show up once, which is a gripe of mine that I have with this album. So, why does this album get an 85 from me if the drums sound clicky, the vocals are only average, and there's no bass to be heard? Because the songs flow so nicely into another, and the overall sound is just enjoyable and fun. Shaun LaCanne, along with Shawn Whitaker (Insidious Decrepancy, Viral Load), is the best one man band in the world, and he executes his vision so well that, despite the slight lack of originality, the music turns out great. If you like brutal death metal, check this out.

Norrin Radd - Anomaly

Bonus points for you if you know whom 'Norrin Radd' is.
NORRIN_RADD is a one man 'band' (he calls himself just a guy), that plays death metal from the NES/chiptune aspect. I'm sure I lost most of you already - BUT WAIT! AS opposed to 'chip' instrumentals covers of DM songs, Norrin Radd is making his OWN music within the strict limitations of the NES 'system".
That means all instruments are chip created as are the vocals (GASP!). If your savvy bout the vidya you know that short shitty sounding 'vocals' were placed in certain NES games as psuedo drum tracks.
So there ya go, get on that.

Plus he lurked the IRC channel a while ago and I've been meaning to post this. Hopefully he's still cool with it.

Abhorred Despiser - Was Raped (2003) 2008 Issue

This stuff reminds me of such releases as the first two Brodequin full lengths, the demo stuff from off of Cranial Impalement by Disgorge, Bloody Gore’s Stench of Your Perversions EP, and maybe some Colombian stuff like Internal Suffering, combined with the undubitably brutal yet nonetheless entertaining and uplifting sound of Deaden favourite Hymns of the Sick, the spectacularly daft Infesting the Exhumed by Lust of Decay, some stuff by Goratory, I can’t remember which, along with the frequently amusing, often lovably lunk-headed escapades heard on the releases of Waco Jesus, and Lividity’s discographical peak The Age of Clitoral Decay. The artwork and presentation is a fairly typical affair: fresh cadaver, glinting steel, bright-red blood. However, it seems to be a male corpse, which alongside the title of the record, suggests that it’s a male rape victim, which makes a change for a brutal death metal title concept, especially by a band with many musical similarities to acts whose themes are often based solely upon unabashedly misogynistic fun for all the family. No lyrics inside though, so it’s likely that I’ve wandered off down a blind alley here. So this is standard rattly, slamly, clatterly brutal death, with the playful tongue-in-cheek type content to catch your attention for a while, but probably not long enough to make repeated listens much of a pressing concern. On their MySpace page, they’ve already summarized their work far better than a cack-spouting reviewer like me ever could: “All groovy heavy killer tunes full of distortion shout...”! Find this, and you’ll have twenty minutes of just that!

Ladies & Gentlemen! I want to say that I'm back and now I'm ready to destroy you with my posts! Excuse me for my long absence. Well, now I finished publish my first post after long silence and it is album of great Poland brutal death group, Absent. You will not be dissapointed. I guess all brutal death fans love such bands like as Lost Soul, Azarath, and Absent remind me these groups. Sometimes like Behemoth as well, but Absent play faster and more brutally. It is raw, cold, furious and hateful album! Let the madness start my friends! Fuck off for any kinds of music, just brutal death & grindcore rulezzzzzz! Stay brutal and horns up!

Chelsea Grin - Desolation Of Eden (2010)

Anyway. I apparently 'slept' on this and never noticed it released - so I'm here posting it now.
It's 10am and I'm at school so I'm not fully enthralled in writing a review.
Perhaps you'd like to know what a Chelsea Grin, or Glasgow Smile, means cuz it's pretty B.A (that's badass, yo).
They, like most 'deathcore' bands, have shied away from the standards of 'breecore' and hold a more chugga-chugga stomp style now a days. Fan of excessive breakdowns? check. Plenty of chugga chugga? Yep. Potentially some brees? mmhmm. Maybe your actually a fan of this band - or like a good laugh. Check.

One of the flagship bands of Europe's modern semi-technical death metal. I consider their first album to be their best, it has a more traditional approach. Nihility is different in almost every way, the songs are longer and there's an abundance of stop-go chug riffage and odd time signatures sometimes resembling Meshuggah (Spheres Of Madness is a good example). The Negation could be easily described as a mix of the previous two albums. However, Organic Hallucinosis is completely different. Many Decapitated fans were successfully pissed off by the awkwardly structured songs and different vocals, but some people say it's the pinnacle of modern death metal. Decide for yourself, my pick remains Winds Of Creation.

Fleshwrought - Dementia/Dyslexia (2010)

More sideprojecst from an ex-Animosity members. The drummer (also of 'Animals As Leaders') and the vocalist from JFAC (job for a cowboy, yo) bring a 2 piece melodically inclined technical death metal act. Oh no id_ that faggot from jfac? THIS MUST BE TERRIBLE! Well hey now, lil shitstain, don't go getting your panties all up in a bunch just yet. I had to research and figure out who the vocalist was - so 'johnny' as he's called certainly didn't sound to par with his JFAC fame on this album. Plus the drummer from Animosity can make magical rainbow colored kittens of power fly from the kit. Did I mention there's some WOODWIND & brass instruments all up in this bitch too? That's some free-jazzin' a la Athiest.
Cuz I know you all jerk off over tech- anything and melo- gives you an even tighter nudge in your black denim jeans (with the holes in the knees)... as I always say.

Jump on the dick train and enjoy.

VA - War From A Harlots Mouth / Burning Skies (split) - 2010

I've always been a fan of WFAHM cuz the acronym is long and just cuz. Plus we've posted stuff from them before - sadly the links are all dead or vanished. I'll get on recovering those.
'War from' play what most would call metalcore - but I disagree for the inclusion of free jazz like stylings and a much higher emphasis on the metal aspect.
Burning Skies, is apparently deathcore. Not that it's a negative thing for they still play at a blistering aggressive speed getting all up in your shit and taking your wallet.

Enjoy.

Excrementory Grindfuckers - Headliner Der Herzen (2010)

So after my high an mighty last post I'll follow up with this.
37 tracks, then another 60 or so that make up a very weird track - then a bonus! That's 99 tracks! WOAH!
Varying vocal styles here - ranging from beer hall chanting gang vocals to gurgles. This band takes the cliche and experimental aspects of grind throws 'em in a grinder (no pun intended) and creates a infectious audio liquid. This german outfit give nods to the old school approach to grind as well the occasional middle finger to it all an go their own route.
Enjoy.
Did I mention they parody other/popular songs an give 'em the grindcore treatment? It's like the german grindcore version of Crotchduster.

The Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come (1998)

Refused are fucking dead.

Why am I posting this here? Mostly cuz I can. Otherwise it's because this band is a rare breed that challenged the foundations of certain genres (or music in general) and ultimately failed but left quite the impact in their wake.
We made this album wanting to challenge peoples preconceptions of what a Punk band could be and what it could play, because Punk is the most conservative musical form there is. Even in Hardcore, there are so many rules about what is and what is not acceptable, and that completely negates the whole spirit of the original idea.

A swedish band who were too hardcore for the punk scene, and too punk for the hardcore scene. They attempted to challenge the foundations of the genre(s) and their inherit limitations and 'rules' as well as battle the internal pressures of being a band in general.

So why should you get this? We here at loadown are of the common stance that genre shouldn't impact your decision making on a band/sound. But it's the first step everyone makes. So why not try an album that says 'fuck that' and has enough oomph to choke a horse.
So hop on the dick train and ride!

Infectious Catheter Therapy - Incredible Stories From Daily Humans Life (2010)

So the oddity of this album is the intro & outro track. The intro is some pretty okay scratching (ya'know - on the 1's and 2's), where as the outro is some good 8-bit. The rest of the album is guttural death/grind that get's it done well.

Straying from the cliche of dumb song titles (medical term + sexual violence reference) and alienating standards of death metal or 'gurgle grind', ICT do a good job merging the two genres. Keeping the humor and pacing of grind with the balls of brutal death (an twitch of tech) - this is a release to savor.

So get on it.

One of the pioneering bands of the deathcore genre. You should notice how Consumed By Your Poison was originally released in 2002, that's several years before deathcore began attracting the infamously homoerotic fans well-known today. Also, back then the band looked considerably more "metal" (see above) than they do now (HATERS GONNA HATE). The band has constantly had two vocalists, one of them on Consumed By Your Poison was a female, which is pretty amazing if you hear those growls. The Healing Process is a bit more polished production-wise but still brutally spastic, The Ills Of Modern Man is a bit slower, less wank and more groove-oriented, Day Of Mourning is kinda between THP and TIOMM with slightly different vocals. The first two albums are my favorites, sadly they're largely overlooked.

Kill The Client - Escalation of Hostility (2005)

More Kill The Client - cuz grind is healthy for you. Comparing to Cleopatracy (yes, I'm gonna keep spelling it like that) this album is more raw in various aspects. I personally feel production wise it's got more grit than the 2008 album - which can be a benefit or loss depending on how 'clear' you like your grind. The general composure of sound feels more loose, a nod to old-school grind territories.
Angry as hell and from Texas, so get on it.

Quality: mp4 - 128c (sorry)

Helloween - Walls of Jericho (1985)

First - you're a faggot if you're not down with Helloween.
Second - I wish the blister on my hand would scab over.
Third - This album is awesome
Fourth - This was made before most of you were born (me included, by a year, so pfft). That makes it more awesome.
Fifth - 'Metal Invaders' is hilarious when your drunk, you should get this at the very least for an amusing listen when intoxicated.

If you don't know, Helloween were/are one of the founding bands in the power metal scene. They influenced a fuck ton of other bands and sold a lot of albums and did all sorts of shit. They're German too, nuff said.

ISHITROBOTS - Doom EP (2010)

Too much thrash lately, so here comes an ultrafast cybergrind release with awesome guttural vocals and funny song titles. In great quality, even.
